‘Who Will Provide’ Exhibition at The Crypt Gallery
31/10 – 4/11 2018
Our group of thirty three MFA students explored and responded to themes relating to charity and its place in today’s world. The exhibition presented a collection of site specific works, ranging from painting to sculpture, assemblage to video through to performance and photography.
Before the summer break preparations started by putting together various teams to properly organise and execute the event. The members of the research team responded to the site by looking into its history, connecting it to its past and designed the theme ’Who Will Provide?’ around the wish list, a document from 1995 which outlined the desired purpose for the building. This included shelter and provision for the homeless, serving the nearby student population and a focal point for community activities.
I volunteered to join the Installation Team. Over the summer I visited the crypt twice with the view to inform myself about the site (wall space, wall and ceiling heights, location of electrical outlets etc.) and to explore a potential location for my own work.
Two weeks prior to the event the curating team got in touch and supplied our team with a list of required tools and materials. We also received technical information on some more complicated works and installing requirements from The Crypt Gallery itself (No drilling of new holes!). There was very good collaboration between curating and installation team and minor installation problems were efficiently dealt with.

Future Planning Summer 2019 – Summer 2020
It has been a 10 year long journey to reach this MFA degree.
I believe, that over the years, I have learnt to build a sustainable life, balancing University challenges with family life and commitments.
My mission is to continue making work about environmental issues, conservation and preservation of the natural world.
TO DO LIST
Reflection period of the past 10 years of academic studies
Having a working space available at home, I need to nurture contact with fellow artists for collaborative projects and for professional exchange of views and critique.
Continue research into galleries/ institutions which would be interested in my kind of practice.
FUTURE PROJECTS
To take part in a group exhibition Sept/Oct 2019 with hylopath gallery, an art apparatus. www.hylopath.org. Positive e-mail exchange and a meeting with gallery owner have taken place. Dates tbc.
Having been able to spend many times in Africa’s bush I have now established contacts with relevant sources in South Africa and Namibia to join one of the conservation projects there.
Planning for January/February 2020, the length of stay will be 6-8 weeks. I am particularly interested in one of the Rhino/Elephant protection and conservation program and Environmental and Wildlife Education. To be confirmed shortly.
GOALS
I want to be part of an exhibition at least twice until next summer
I want to learn a new skill which will strengthen my art making and could lead to new ideas and approaches
I would like to undertake a collaborative project- to write a book- about discovering creativity at a late stage in one's life
